Anambra State Demolishes Structures Built on Government Land at Trans Nkisi, Onitsha.
This declaration was made yesterday, Wednesday, January 29th, 2020 by the Honourable Commissioner for Lands, Hon. Bonaventure Enemali during the demolition exercise carried out on structures that were erected on government property located at Trans Nkisi, Onitsha.
Hon. Enemali explained that gone are the days when individuals would enter, grab and develop government lands without due approval. He further pointed out that the government is poised to pulling down any structure (no matter the level of development) built on lands that belong to the state. He advised persons wishing to obtain land from government to approach the ministry of Lands, follow the processes and lands will be allocated to them. In conclusion, Hon. Enemali warned that all persons occupying government property will be chased out and the property recovered begining with Onitsha, Awka and other places.
Speaking further on the issue, the Chairman/Managing Director of the Anambra State Physical Planning Board, Barr. Chike Maduekwe warned land speculators that the days of impunity are gone.
“We’ve been announcing on the radio and on other platforms that whoever is occupying government lands should vacate same that we are coming to recover them. Government needs land for development and if an individual needs land, he should approach the ministry and follow due process”, Barr. Maduekwe concluded.
On his part, the Anambra State House of Assembly Committee Chairman on Lands and Member representing Idemili North LGA, Hon. Arthur Ifeanyi Chiekwu noted that he moved a motion on the floor of The House in July of last year calling on members to look into the unnecessary encroachment of government lands by land grabbers. “There’s nothing else we are asking the people than for them to approach the ministry when they need land”, he said.
The demolition exercise was carried out on a sixteen-plot land located in the aforesaid location.
